More than 650 former FDC and other opposition supporters from Nyakagyeme and Rwerere town council in Rujumbura County have crossed over to the Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The Minister for Security and the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, warmly welcomed the converts at separate events held at Masya Primary School and Nyakagyeme Sub County headquarters.
The event, attended by Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Rukungiri district Mr. Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom and other NRM leaders, saw Minister Jim Muhwezi emphasizing the NRM’s commitment to non-sectarianism, nationalism, pan-Africanism, and socioeconomic reform. He encouraged the new members to embrace group responsibility in addressing the nation’s challenges, particularly rural poverty.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, the converts voiced their admiration for the NRM’s inclusive approach and criticized the FDC leadership for abandoning them during difficult times. They commended Minister Muhwezi for his efforts in community development, such as the recent playground construction at Masya Primary School.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner Ongom assured the new members of support in government initiatives and urged existing NRM members to welcome them. Organizers highlighted the progress made by the NRM in national development as a key reason for encouraging individuals to join the party.
