Notably, there are new faces in these roles including Sarah Katushabe, Sarah Tushabe, Don Muhindo, Mac Donald, and Innocent Nahabwe. Additionally, Dr. Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko has been reinstated to his former position, following Abdulnoor Kyamundu’s term which began in 2017. Counsel Derrick Namakajjo has been relieved of his duties in the legal affairs department.

Both Namakajjo and Kyamundu have been active in advocating for reforms within the party. Kyamundu is positioning himself to contest for the party presidency in the upcoming National Delegates Conference slated for June.

In response to these changes, the newly appointed party spokesperson, Dr. Shuib Kaggwa Nsereko, emphasized the necessity of these adjustments, stating that they were overdue and in line with the party’s commitment to mentoring young leaders. He also addressed concerns about internal democracy and leadership turnover within JEEMA, asserting that these changes are part of the natural evolution of the party.

Regarding calls for Basalirwa’s replacement, Dr. Nsereko maintained that leadership decisions are subject to endorsement or rejection based on various considerations. He underscored Basalirwa’s contributions to the party and his voluntary decision to step aside to facilitate the emergence of new leadership.

The focus now shifts to the upcoming delegates’ conference, where new party leadership will be elected. Further details regarding this event will be provided by the party electoral commission in an upcoming press conference.
