Summary:

  • Ugandan politicians, Hon. Mwesigye Frank and Duncan Abigaba, engage in a fiery X feud, sparking public debate on the fine line between personal and political matters, all while the proverbial wisdom ‘Ignorance is like buttocks, Everyone has his own!!’ echoes through the controversy.

The usually composed world of Ugandan politics has been shaken by yet another X (formerly Twitter) feud between Hon. Mwesigye Frank and Duncan Abigaba, both prominent figures in the country’s political landscape. What started as a series of provocative questions has now escalated into a heated online exchange, leaving the public questioning the appropriateness of dragging personal matters into the public domain.

The saga began when Hon. Mwesigye Frank took to X with a barrage of questions aimed at Duncan Abigaba, a well-known political figure. Frank’s tweets were no less than a direct attack on Abigaba’s personal life, questioning the reasons behind his divorce, the alleged involvement of friends with his ex-wife, and the apparent estrangement from his social circle.

In response to the explosive accusations, Duncan Abigaba chose to take the high road, asserting that his X account is reserved for discussing national and international issues rather than personal matters. He diplomatically sidestepped the personal attacks, citing a commitment to a higher purpose and bidding farewell to the online exchange to focus on an upcoming exam.

Support for Abigaba came from various quarters, with Matsiko Jackson praising his efforts to promote transparency and accountability within the government. Dr. Kenneth Omona Olusegun, in a somewhat philosophical response, compared the success of both individuals, highlighting that wealth is subjective and location-dependent.

However, the controversy didn’t end there. Andrea Kirungi and @Ssabalongo1 criticized Hon. Mwesigye Frank for what they deemed as irrelevant and inappropriate questions, urging him to focus on substantive issues rather than personal attacks. Kirungi even quoted an African proverb, stating, “Ignorance is like buttocks, Everyone has his own!!

As the X war continues, the public remains divided on the appropriateness of bringing personal matters into the political arena. Some argue that politicians should be held accountable for their personal lives, while others believe that such matters should remain private.

What started as a seemingly innocuous set of questions has snowballed into a social media storm, exposing the personal underbelly of political figures. The online clash raises questions about the line between personal and political matters on social media, leaving many wondering whether this is a new norm in the realm of political discourse or merely a sensationalized episode in the ever-evolving landscape of online interactions.
