Kasese District | The Black Examiner – Tension has gripped Bukonzo County West as an alleged arson attempt unfolded at Isango Muslim Primary School, situated within Isango sub-county in Kasese district.
In the early hours of today, school officials informed the media that unidentified individuals had reportedly sought to ignite fires within both the girls’ and boys’ dormitories, with intentions to engulf them in flames.
Speaking on behalf of the Rwenzori East Regional Police, SP Nelson Tumushime acknowledged the incident in a statement to the press. Nevertheless, he dismissed assertions of a potential rebel assault on the educational institution.
Tumushime assured that law enforcement agencies were committed to launching a comprehensive investigation into the occurrence, aiming to establish the precise origins of the attempted fire incident at the school.
The police spokesperson highlighted a concern about the safety and security measures for the students, emphasizing the absence of a protective perimeter wall to safeguard their well-being.

Matron Zubeda Muhindo provided insight into the unsettling event, recounting that around 8 pm, an episode unfolded wherein incendiary devices were hurled into the dormitories. Fortunately, the pupils in the affected dormitories were outdoors at the time. Recognizing the peril, they promptly notified the school’s administration.
This alarming event transpired approximately 3 kilometers from the Ugandan-DRC border at the primary school’s location. Notably, this incident follows a mere six weeks since the ADF rebel assault on a secondary school in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council.
On June 16th of this year, a horrifying attack was perpetrated against Mpondwe-Lhubiriha secondary school, leading to the brutalization of 37 students by assailants. Some students were kidnapped, and their whereabouts remain unknown to date.
Head teacher Ali Abdalarahim dismissed the possibility that the suspected arsonists could be linked to rebel forces, reasoning that such individuals wouldn’t have vanished instantly.
However, Lt. Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, communicated his directive to close the boarding facilities of the implicated institution. Lt. Walusimbi asserted that these facilities were overcrowded and consequently unsuitable for accommodating the students.
