Police Warns Bobi Wine and Supporters About Unapproved Office Opening

Friday, November 3, 2023

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Ugandan police have issued a warning to leaders and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) concerning the planned grand opening of their new party offices in Makerere Kavule, which has not received security clearance.

The originally scheduled grand opening on Thursday was thwarted by the presence of police and army personnel deployed at the new NUP offices. In response, NUP leaders decided to postpone the event to the following day, Friday.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, in a statement, cautioned that the grand opening has not been officially communicated to the Inspector General of Police. As a result, there has been no coordination or collaboration with security forces.

Onyango stated, “In light of this, we recommend that the National Unity Platform initiates a dialogue and harmonizes with the relevant security authorities before proceeding with their planned function tomorrow.”

NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi criticized security forces for blocking the office opening, citing a lack of manpower to secure the event. He expressed frustration with the government’s actions and rescheduled the official opening for the next day, hoping to avoid further excuses.
