The Opposition has made a commitment not to interfere with or oppose the Parish Development Modal (PDM) program. This decision was disclosed by Muwanga Kivumbi, the Butambala County MP, as he presented opposition proposals for enhancing the effective implementation of the PDM to the Parliamentary Public Service and Local Government committee.
Kivumbi, who also serves as the chairperson of the Buganda parliamentary caucus, stressed the importance of depoliticizing the PDM, emphasizing that its primary purpose is to benefit local and disadvantaged communities.
Kivumbi’s announcement comes after President Museveni had previously issued warnings to opposition MPs, including Muwanga Kivumbi and Nakaseke South MP Paul Lutamaguzi, regarding their involvement in the PDM.
Kivumbi mentioned that, as political figures from Buganda, they have collectively decided not to obstruct the PDM and instead encourage people to take advantage of government programs designed to benefit the public.
However, Christine Apolot, the vice chairperson of the committee, expressed concerns about corruption within the process of disbursing PDM funds. She confirmed receiving reports of irregularities involving committees and certain commercial banks that demand commissions before releasing the funds.
