Hoima District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | During the Hoima LC5 by-election campaign on Monday evening, a tragic incident occurred in which a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) lost his life, and ten others sustained injuries. The incident occurred as the convoy accompanying NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, was on its way to Kigorobya Sub County in Hoima District for a campaign rally in support of the party candidate.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Norman Mugisa, a resident of Kiryatete. The fatal incident occurred when Mugisa was struck by unknown vehicles and motorcycles within the convoy.

Hakiza explained that the incident took place at Mumpuda along the Hoima-Buliisa road at around 5:30 pm. The injured victims were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, but their identities have not been established.

The cause of the accident was attributed to reckless driving and speeding. The police had issued warnings to all drivers earlier in the day to prioritize safety and refrain from speeding within convoys.

A general inquiry file has been initiated for the incident, and the police are encouraging anyone with information about the vehicles and motorcycles involved to report to the police. This information will aid in the ongoing investigation, potentially leading to the impoundment of the vehicles and the arrest of their owners.
