Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) expresses dissatisfaction with the Uganda Human Rights Commission’s (UHRC) recent statement regarding the whereabouts of their supporters.

In a report published by the UHRC on Tuesday, they claimed to be unable to locate at least 18 NUP members due to a lack of cooperation from NUP leaders and family members.

Speaking at a press conference held at NUP headquarters in Kamwokya on Thursday, party spokesperson Joel Senyonyi voiced disappointment in the UHRC’s actions, stating that a commission tasked with safeguarding the rights of Ugandans appears to be working in conjunction with entities that violate these rights.

Senyonyi further pointed out that it is incorrect to suggest that the 18 individuals in question lack identifiable information, as their relatives are available, yet no one from the UHRC has made any efforts to contact them.

In response to this, Senyonyi announced their intention to accompany the families of these individuals to the UHRC office for formal recognition by UHRC Head Mariam Wangadya and to provide the necessary details.

Additionally, some family members have also expressed their disappointment with the UHRC’s statement.
