Mr. Kanaginagi Merekisedeki Ateenyi, the Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party in Masindi district, has announced his intention to run for the position of Masindi district chairmanship.

Kanaginagi revealed that he has received widespread support from various corners of the district, prompting him to make the decision to vie for the district chairmanship in the upcoming 2026 elections. “After careful consideration, I have chosen to enter the race for district chairmanship, citing my continued energy and commitment,” he declared.

The announcement took place at his residence in Bokwe Village, Labongo Sub County, Buruli Constituency, during a thanksgiving mass commemorating his 32-year-long holy matrimony with his wife, Jane Kanaginagi Nnamazi. Drawing on his extensive political experience of over two decades as a councilor and various leadership roles, Kanaginagi expressed confidence in his ability to address the challenges facing the district.

“I am not new to this; I have served as a councilor for more than 15 years, held positions such as vice district chairperson, secretary for finance, and secretary for education. My wealth of experience equips me to resolve the issues affecting our district,” he asserted.

Known by the moniker “Orutindo,” Kanaginagi emphasized his commitment to fostering peace and harmony in the district, which he believes is currently lacking. He praised the team of politicians he joined forces with in 1998, forming a political clan.

Cosmas Byaruhanga, the incumbent Masindi district LCV Chairperson, lauded Kanaginagi as a leader who resisted corruption and advised the residents to vote wisely in the upcoming elections. Byaruhanga, who has fought against corruption during his term, urged for the election of leaders committed to a corruption-free district.

Father Aloysius Byaruhanga, the parish priest for St. Jude Catholic Parish Masindi Town, commended Kanaginagi for being a positive role model in politics, economy, education, and spirituality, setting a commendable example for his family.

Kanaginagi, born on December 9, 1957, to Benoit Baikaire and Maria Thereza Nsekanteberwe, has a diverse background in farming, engineering, and community service. His extensive involvement in various associations and recognition, such as the Golden Medal from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, reflects his dedication to agriculture and community development.
