Police Car Crash in Hoima Leaves Seven Dead, Three Injured

Seven people have been killed in a fatal accident involving a police car along the Kizirafumbi-Kabaale road in Hoima district. The accident occurred this evening at around 3:20 p.m.

The accident that involved a Kikuube police car whose registration number is yet to be identified occurred at Kitegwa B village in Kabaale parish, Kabaale sub county in Hoima district.

Available information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN) reveals that four police officers plus three civilians who were traveling in the police car died on the spot.

Three other people who were traveling on the same car sustained severe injuries and have been rushed to Hoima regional referral hospital.

The identities of the officers and other civilians who perished in the car accident were not readily available by press time. Preliminary reports indicate that the police car was from Kikuube central police station heading to Kyarushesha in Kyangwali sub county.

Stephen Andhima, an eye witness and a resident of Nyakasenene village in Kabaale sub county says, they had a loud bang and rushed only to find that the police car had been involved in the fatal accident. He says the seven people died on the spot.

According to Andhima, the police car lost control, veered off the road and overturned severally.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the accident to URN but declined to divulge more details.

“It is true our police car got involved in a fatal accident and some of our officers have died in the accident. Some civilians who were traveling in the same car have also died. We are investigating the matter and later we shall avail you with the correct information, “ said Hakiza.

By press time, traffic police had arrived at the scene to kick start investigations.
