Headed by Prof. Julio Rakotonirina, who leads health, humanitarian affairs, and social development at the African Union, the delegation engaged President Museveni in discussions concerning the potential establishment of the Agency in Uganda.
President Museveni underscored Uganda’s notable track record in humanitarian endeavors, particularly in sheltering 1.6 million African refugees, a substantial figure on the continent following Ethiopia.
The decision to establish a Humanitarian Agency was endorsed at the 11th AU Humanitarian Symposium held in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2023, demonstrating the African Union’s commitment to reinforcing its Humanitarian Architecture.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Jessica Alupo, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and other government officials.
