Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Following the suspension of five members of parliament, including MP Francis Zaake, from participating in house sittings, Zaake expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision. He accused the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, and her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, of exhibiting double standards. During a recent appearance on an NTV Talk Show, he stated, “The Speaker of Parliament and her Deputy have double standards. They behave as if they are above the law and do not adhere to the rules of procedure.”

The five members suspended yesterday were Joyce Bagala (Mityana District Woman MP), Derick Nyako (Makindye East MP), Betty Nambooze (Mukono Municipality), Frank Kabuye (Kassanda South), and Francis Zaake (Mityana MP).

The suspension followed the widespread reaction to a video showing the torture and arrests of NUP (National Unity Platform) supporters, which had failed to be presented as promised. Zaake pointed out the double standard in this manner, saying, “They allowed the use of a video as evidence. However, just yesterday, they denied the presentation of a video as evidence in response to the Minister of Internal Affairs. The video was about how our (NUP) supporters were treated on the day of independence. We wanted to expose them.”

He further noted that similar disruptive behavior had occurred on different occasions, but no action had been taken.

On social media, some individuals criticized Zaake for his behavior. Angel Timsy, for instance, commented, “Tell that Zaake boy to grow up and have some good manners. He’s disgracing the people he shares blood with. Leadership is not about using excessive physical energy and vulgar words. He was supposed to remain a supporter, not a leader.”

Another individual named Byaruhanga Xris accused him of using inappropriate language, stating, “You should accept that you have, on several occasions, used the wrong choice of words. Don’t defend your abnormal behavior.”

Maxwel Daniel, on the other hand, pointed out the inconsistency in the public’s response, saying, “Ugandans are funny. I am seeing a lot of them criticizing Zaake for being ill-mannered, but they remain silent when people in government mistreat, imprison, and even kill Ugandans. I think as Ugandans, we’re born jokers, mediocre, and average people.”
