Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Legislators affiliated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) are facing accusations of contravening the opposition’s decision to abstain from plenaries in protest of ongoing human rights abuses. The individuals implicated include Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Budadiri County West), Yusuf Nsibambi (Mawokota), and Geoffrey Ekanya (Torooro North County).

Buhweju County’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Francis Mwijukye, disclosed that the trio has been summoned before the party’s disciplinary committee to address allegations of misconduct. Mwijukye emphasized that those aligning themselves with the oppressor do not represent the collective interests of the opposition, expressing a need for clarity on their actions.

As part of the opposition, Mwijukye stated that they are awaiting the expiration of the 30-day period set by the leader of the opposition to determine their course of action. Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa asserted that the FDC adheres to collective decisions made by the opposition in parliament and distanced the party from the accused lawmakers.

Ambassador Birigwa underscored the universality of human rights, condemning the persistent violations and affirming FDC’s solidarity with the opposition’s call for the upholding of these rights. The opposition’s decision to boycott parliamentary sessions, initiated on October 17, remains in effect as they demand a thorough parliamentary discussion on the issue of missing persons and accountability for the alleged human rights violations in November 2020.
