Atletico Madrid confirmed their place in the Champions League round of 16 with an emphatic 4-1 victory over RB Salzburg. The match, highlighted by Antoine Griezmann’s brace, saw Atletico dominate from the start, setting the tone with an early goal from Giuliano Simeone in the fifth minute. Assisted by Julian Alvarez, Simeone’s right-footed strike gave Atletico an early advantage.

Eight minutes later, Julian Alvarez turned provider again, delivering a pinpoint cross that Antoine Griezmann converted with precision, doubling Atletico’s lead. As the first half neared its end, Griezmann struck once more, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack orchestrated by Samuel Lino.

The second half saw no respite for Salzburg, as Marcos Llorente extended Atletico’s lead to 4-0 in the 63rd minute. Rodrigo de Paul initiated a rapid break that set up Llorente’s clinical finish into the bottom left corner. Despite a late consolation goal by Adam Daghim for Salzburg in stoppage time, Atletico’s commanding performance secured their progression to the next round.

With this win, Atletico Madrid finished fifth in the group standings, positioning them for automatic qualification to the round of 16. Their opponents in the knockout stage will be determined after the completion of the playoffs. On the other hand, RB Salzburg, finishing third from bottom in Group H, exits the competition with just three points from their eight group stage matches.
