At the Acacia-Kayunga road junction in Kampala, two persons have been fatally struck and died on spot.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened at 1:26 a.m. on Friday, according to Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
According to preliminary findings, a black Mercedes-Benz being driven by Mr. Faziru Kimera, a resident of Buwate in the Kira Municipality of the Wakiso District, was speeding too fast from the Acacia side. Unfortunately, at the Kayunga junction, the driver lost control of the car. Three street kids who had sought refuge there were hit as the car slammed through the road barriers. The white Toyota Mark X was coming from the Mulago side when it collided with the Mercedes-Benz, according to the statement he released Friday evening.
The response to the incident, according to Mr. Owoyesigyire, was taken, but two of the street kids were later declared dead at Mulago Hospital. The unidentified Mark X driver and Kimera were both taken to a hospital for treatment.
The vehicles involved in the accident have also been seized by police and are currently kept at Kira Road Police Station, where the Inspectorate of cars will inspect them.
According to earlier reporting, the two drivers were competing with one another before they caused the fatal traffic accident. Mr. Owoyesigyire said that the cars were arriving from several directions.
“The Uganda Police Force is dedicated to carrying out a complete inquiry into the circumstances leading up to this disaster. We kindly request that everyone who uses the road drive carefully and obey all posted speed and traffic laws. The need for everyone to feel secure on the roadways is of the utmost importance, and we must all do our share to make that happen.
