The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) youth leaders across the country have leveled accusations against the Party President, Patrick Amutiat Oboi, and the Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi, citing violations of the party constitution.
Throughout the entire past week, heated verbal exchanges have been witnessed among the top leaders of the party. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the party spokesperson, and his faction have accused the aforementioned duo of obtaining funds from undisclosed sources during the 2021 general election, without duly declaring them to the party.
Furthermore, Amuriat and Nandala stand accused of failing to implement crucial party decisions that were previously agreed upon by members of the national executive council (NEC).
In their address on Tuesday, the party’s youth leaders expressed their concern that Amuriat and Nandala have tarnished the party’s image and have demonstrated a lack of transparency in their actions.
Consequently, they are now demanding the resignation of both leaders and a public apology to party members. The youth leaders have additionally accused them of promoting tribalism and spreading propaganda.
On the previous Wednesday, Amuriat responded to the allegations of receiving funds from hostile groups, stating that their founding President, Kizza Besigye, had privately raised such concerns in 2020. Amuriat asserted that efforts were made over the past two years to discreetly address the matter, but with limited success.
While Ssemujju contends that internal elections are being mishandled for self-serving reasons, Amuriat argues that his accusers simply fear the forthcoming elections.
Nandala refuted the accusations made by Hon. Semujju’s group, insisting that they were baseless and lacked evidence. He challenged them to present any proof supporting their claims, particularly regarding alleged money transactions at the State House.
According to Nandala, the funding for the 2021 election was insufficient, amounting to less than 3 billion shillings, as funders supposedly abandoned the cause due to Amuriat’s candidacy.
