A coalition of minority opposition parties in Uganda has formed an alliance known as the Holly Alliance, aimed at preparing Ugandans for the post-President Yoweri Museveni era.
The Alliance includes Asuman Basalirwa, leader of the Justice Forum (JEEMA) and Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament; Joseph Kabuleta, leader of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED); and John Ken Lukyamuzi, President of the Conservative Party (CP). Others involved are Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, leader of the Democratic Party (DP) Bloc, and Joseph Othieno.
During a joint press conference in Rubaga division this morning, Basalirwa emphasized the need for constructive national dialogues to facilitate a peaceful political transition in the country. He advocated for Parliament to initiate legislation concerning national dialogue and governance activities to streamline the political transition process. Basalirwa suggested that the law should outline procedures for conducting national dialogues and implementing resolutions reached.

Regarding constitutional amendments related to the rationalization of government agencies, Basalirwa proposed broadening the scope of amendments to include political parties.
Joseph Kabuleta, President of NEED, clarified that the alliance’s objective is not to confront any individual or party but to prepare Uganda for the post-Museveni era, responding to needs as they arise.
Last year, the People’s Front for Transition, a loose political coalition comprising various parties and activists, commenced mobilization efforts to advocate for a transitional government and effect political change in Uganda.
